Welcome to Mormoiron!
Mormoiron is a charming but unpretentious village in the Vaucluse, in northern Provence, France. Nestling in the foothills
of Mt. Ventoux ("The Giant of Provence", 1912m) just 7 kms due south of the mountain, it is 12 kms east of Carpentras and
about 30 kms north-east of Avignon (capital of the Vaucluse). The permanent population is now somewhat over 1,800.
Wine-making is the main economic activity, along with growing table-grapes, cherries, olives; sand-quarrying; and,
of course, tourism in the season (though this is not one of those villages that becomes dead in winter once the
tourists have left…). We are proud of our village. And we hope that this site will help you enjoy it too.
This English-language version of Mormoiron's own website is not a translation of the original version in French,
but complements it. It is aimed at a different audience - mainly non-French-speaking visitors who have never
been here before. Non-francophones who have come to settle here, either for a while or else for good, should
by now have learned enough French to access the original version of the website, which provides plenty of
useful information and advice and is regularly updated. This version in English will be revised twice a year,
in March and September. If any of the web-links fail, just google the addresses given. Please tell us if you
spot any errors, can suggest relevant new website links, offer any good photographs of the village, or have
comments or suggestions on how to improve the site, send them to:
